She is almost the one and only well-known female character of the academic world of sciences, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903, then in Chemistry in 1911. Born in Poland but working in France, Marie Curie is recognized for the early studies of radioactivity, the discovery of radium and polonium, and the research conducted on the medical application of radiology.
